About Tanya Bakala

Tanya Bakala - Artistic Director of Mission Dance in Kelowna BCTanya Bakala has studied ballet, modern, character and jazz at the National Ballet School in Toronto, both as a dancer and as a teacher. She also studied Flamenco with the renowned Susana and Antonio Robledo (who were featured in the NFB documentary “Flamenco at 5:15″). Later, she continued her dance training in Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

Tanya Bakala has taught ballet and flamenco in Germany, the Czech Republic, in Toronto, Mississauga, Hamilton, Vancouver and now in Kelowna, BC.

Tanya’s choreographic works have been seen at the Montreal Fringe Festival, the Music Hall in Toronto, Vancouver Kiss Project, and Hamilton Place with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, McMaster University and at the Mayor’s Gala ‘97 at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

Since the formation of the Mission Dance Centre in 2003 and the Mission Dance Company in 2004, Tanya has created and produced many events and shows in the Okanagan. The Centre and Company have performed at the Evergreen Gala for the Rotary Centre for the Arts, The Life & Arts Festival, Canada Day celebrations and public schools to name just a few. The large productions include a performance at the Grand Opening of the Rotary Centre for the Arts, the Trio performances with Stu Goldberg and Denis Letourneau, and the Mission Dance Centre’s annual Dance Artístico or Season’s Inspirations at the Kelowna Community Theatre.
